A Birth, a Death and a Barrelage. A History of “The Hawthorn Farm” In the area of Quinton-Oldbury by Kate Creed – available early September 2008

cxc

A4 format, 120 pages, colour front and back cover, 80 photographs, postcards, maps, newspaper and programme cuttings.

“The Hawthorn Farm, upwards of 60 acres situated on the Turnpike Road, Birmingham. A farmland that once spread over Quinton’s dual carriageway was once a quiet lane from Worcester to Birmingham, it house a pub, a post office and a small but industrious community on the edge of this long forgotten farm.

“Today it is replaced by the very fast Hagley Road West and Trevanie Avenue on one side and Perry Hill on the other. The farm went down Chestnut road into Oak Road, Elm Croft, Sunny Bank Road, Wood green Road, Stanley Road, Birch Lane, Kenilworth Road, Warwick Road, over the Wolverhampton Road to Castle Road and the school which was once Castle Road School.

“There is no book about the area quite like this. It complements the work done by Hall, Maxam and Rosser and adds a new dimension to the history of the area.”
